About

This is a webpage put together by a future Rn to increase awareness of childhood obesity and what can be done. Prevention is important and public policy can play a major role. It has a couple articles that I have written, as well as links to other websites that provide valuable information in fighting the trend of childhood obesity.

Decreasing the obesity trend is not a single faceted battle, there are multiple different causes. This site is to show the need to increase the physical activity in schools as a means of lowering the rate. Nutrition is important and gets the most attention, but there are other areas that need to be addressed as well. We will only see a great change in the rates of childhood obesity when we are united and push for improvements in policy.

There are two big steps for this change: education and action. First read and education yourself about the health risks of obesity, the rates which are continually on the rise, and what can be done. Then, contact your local officials to improve policy. There needs to be a push in order initiate change. If you want to start smaller, contact your school and find out what there current policy is on physical education or talk to your school board about what changes need to be made. This is not a simple problem, but together we can start a movement!
